Do I need Disability Insurance?

If you work and you don’t already have disability insurance, the answer is YES. If you’re unable to work due to a disability, a disability insurance policy will help replace the paycheck that you would no longer receive.

If you already have disability insurance through your employer make sure to check out the details of your policy. Many employer-provided disability policies do not offer the same benefits that you can get with a policy of your own. Compare the price, waiting period, and benefit period. You might find that you can get more for your money with a personal policy. And most employer-provided policies are not portable, meaning that if you change employers, you lose the coverage.

While you cannot replace an existing policy through the DIME process, you can do so with a traditional disability insurance policy. If you want to compare prices to your current disability policy, fill out our disability insurance quote form.

If you have a house, you almost definitely insure it, and with good reason. If your house burned down, you need to know that you’re going to be okay. You insure your car for the same reason. Most of us can’t afford to replace a house or a car in the event that something catastrophic happens.

Yet, our future income is worth way more than our house, our car, and everything else we may own, combined!

So how do YOU plan to replace your income if you are suddenly unable to work? This is where disability insurance steps in.

Quite simply, not insuring our income is incomprehensible.

Statistically, 25% of us will suffer a disability lasting more than 90 days in our lifetime. That’s one in FOUR.

The odds of your house burning down are less than 1 in 1,200. You’re far more likely to experience a disability than your house is to go up in flames, so be sure to protect your income too!
